Based on the celebrated novel by Daniel Wallace and the acclaimed film directed by Tim Burton, BIG FISH tells the story of Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman who lives life to its fullest…and then some! Edward’s incredible, larger-than-life stories thrill everyone around him—most of all, his devoted wife Sandra. But their son Will, about to have a child of his own, is determined to find the truth behind his father’s epic tales. End of the Line is the premiere Allman Brothers Tribute Band. Having carved up the Southeast with sold out shows in Georgia & Tennessee, End of the Line is making a name for themselves with a sound as classic & heavy as the original brothers themselves. Last, but certainly not least, the low end duties are vastly covered by Casey Conway, who is a perfect bottom end sandwich of Berry, Allen, and Oteil. ART CLASS

Students will paint a dimensional ocean landscape with fibers, textiles, beads, and embroidery. Each participant will develop a 6” or 8" square unique ocean-themed design they will render in fabrics, beads, yards, and other materials. They will learn fabric manipulation techniques, basic beading and simple hand embroidery stitches, and be guided through creating a unique dimensional ocean landscape. The workshop is beginner-friendly and offers time for experimentation and creativity. Everyone will leave with understanding how to paint a dimensional picture with fabric and a completed wall hanging ready for framing.

FULL DESCRIPTION

​Students will start by learning the basics of landscape design in fabric from composition to dimensional effects that fabric can create. They will learn how to manipulate fabric to create movement in their design and build elements that add extra dimension to their work, such as beaded buttons and fabric stones. They will also have the opportunity to embellish a sea creature for their piece. Once everyone has decided on their design, in collaboration with the instructor, students will learn how to create beaded, stitched, manipulated fabric items that will be attached to the landscape via stitching or gluing. Next they will be guided through putting each piece together in the proper order with hand-embroidery stitches. After their composition is completed, they will learn how to mount their artwork on foam board, but they will learn several other ways to mount textile artwork so that when they leave they will be able to frame it as desired.

TIME

3 Consecutive Days: September 17, 18, & 19 (10am to 4pm, break for lunch), $245 per person.

SUPPLIES

Roberta will provide all textiles, batting, yarns, beads, threads, needles, natural materials, and foam board mounts. She will also bring an iron, ironing board, scissors, sewing rulers, thimbles, fabric markers, fabric glues, fabric scissors and thread snippers.

Students do not need to bring anything, but if you have a favorite thimble, scissors, or a particular fabric or yarns you would like to use, you are welcome to bring those things. You may also bring a frame you would like to use for your wall hanging (6” or 8" square frame).

ABOUT ROBERTA

Roberta Bell is a textile-focused mixed media artist. With a fantastical and hopeful perspective, she explores landscapes she treasures, which are in crisis due to climate change and other human-generated pressures. Using primarily reclaimed materials, she gives ‘second life’ to the beauty still living in them.

BOTANICAL PRINTING with Jan Quarles

Saturday, September 26 , 10AM – 4PM (Ages 14+)

Botanical printing is a fascinating process that works with nature to provide stunning results. In this one-day workshop, you’ll learn one way to create pattern on fabric by making prints with actual plants, and we’ll talk about other techniques as well. You’ll learn about ethically foraging for plants that make good prints, and preparing natural fabric to accept plant color. You’ll then
design and roll your own scarf before we complete the steaming and finishing processes. While your larger project is steaming, you will make a bundle dyed bandanna!

All materials provided. Kits include a silk scarf, an organic bandanna (already mordanted for you), dowel for rolling, dye blanket for color as desired, project ties and other essentials.

ABOUT JAN

Jan Quarles is a long-time fiber artist who works with the beauty of the natural world. For more than 30 years she’s been a dyer, weaver, knitter, seamstress, and spinner. Today, with her small business of What Nature Leaves, she is a botanical printer, natural dyer, and a practitioner of shibori and katazome who deeply loves the magic of indigo. Quarles had a solo show of her indigo and botanical prints in Nashville and currently has work in Arrowmont’s summer gallery shows. She has studied with many teachers at Arrowmont, Penland, John C. Campbell and other craft venues nationally and internationally. She is a former journalist and professor of mass communication in the United States and overseas who has always practiced her fiber arts in the hours that were her own.

Rich with both humor and horror, this play paints a wickedly theatrical picture of Stoker's famous vampire.

Based on the beloved Barbara Stanwyck film, this hilarious musical is destined to become a holiday tradition!

Aspiring writer Elizabeth Sanders moves to New York City wanting to change the world, but first she needs to make rent. Out of desperation, she takes a job as a columnist, doling out advice about domestic life in the country—something she knows nothing about. Under the pseudonym Liz Lane, she skyrockets to fame, writing weekly about cooking, marital bliss, and life in her bucolic farmhouse in Connecticut…all the while living alone in her city apartment. When Liz’s biggest fan, a beloved war hero, is invited to her nonexistent farm by her publisher, Liz is forced to find a house and husband in Connecticut to maintain the façade…and her job. Throw in a team of co-conspirators, madcap locals, and a toe-tapping Broadway-style score, and holiday hijinks abound as Liz tries to pull off the hoax.

Music City Stones is a Rolling Stones Tribute band based in Nashville, Tennessee. Featuring top Nashville musicians and performers, Music City Stones prides itself on integrity of the musicianship along with Louis Lee's spot on rendition of Mick.

Music City Stones was founded by lead singer, Louis Lee Napolitano, and has been Rockin' the Stones since 2004. They also have a reputation for neatly packaging their set-lists to fit the occasion.

The show promises to be special with a setlist which will include plenty of hit songs that will make you want to dance.

Based on the hit film and the incredible true story, Catch Me If You Can is the high-flying musical comedy about chasing your dreams and not getting caught. Nominated for four Tony awards, including Best Musical, this delightfully entertaining show was created by a Tony Award-winning "dream team," with a book by Terrence McNally (The Full Monty, Ragtime) and a swinging score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray).

SCHOOL MATINEE SERIES (Public Performances)

The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many "thinks." Horton faces a double challenge – not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.

McCartney Forever is an all new, dynamic, and exciting Rock and Roll show featuring the music and catalog of Paul McCartney. Frontman Miles Frizzell is known for his portrayal of Paul in various acts such as - Emmy award winning band ‘The Fab Four’, ‘1964 The Tribute’, ‘Forever Abbey Road’, and many more. Miles has been called one of the best McCartney impersonators in the world. The show was Co-founded by Nashville Music Industry Veteran John Salaway who toured with Paul McCartney’s guitarist Denny Laine from Wings, and worked with the Beatles’ studio engineer Geoff Emerick.
